Recipe: Broiled Tilapia Filets with Cajun Cream Sauce

Submitted by: Andrea Austin

This recipe is a big hit at my house. If you haven't had tilapia, I highly recommend it. It's a meaty fish without the harsh "fish" taste...very mild. We get the fresh tilapia filets from Costco which are normally quite large. The sauce makes enough for 2 - 4 servings.

Category: Entree
Servings: 2 - 4
Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons Butter, Divided
  • 2 Cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 Pint Heavy Cream
  • Cajun Seasoning (To Taste)
  • 4 Medium/Large Tilapia Filets
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil (or comparable oil)

Directions

  • Set Oven to Broil
  • On a broiling pan lined with aluminum foil, brush the tilapia filets front and back with olive oil
  • Lightly sprinkle one side of the filets with cajun seasoning
  • Put filets, seasoning side up on the pan and broil in oven until meat is cooked and flakes with a fork (about 10 minutes)
  • While fish is cooking: In a medium saucepan on medium heat, melt 1 Tablespoon of butter.
  • Add the minced garlic and bring to a sizzle and stir constantly for about 1 minute
  • Reduce heat to low and add the remaining 2 Tablespoons of butter and the flour
  • Using a wire whisk, blend the butter, garlic and flour until it is fully combined and texture is like a runny paste
  • Raise heat to medium and add the heavy cream, whisking the flour mixture and cream together (The sauce will gradually thicken as you whisk. For thicker sauce, add flour a teaspoon at a time and whisk for desired thickness.)
  • Sprinkle cajun seasoning in the sauce to taste (I use about a Tablespoon or so)

To Serve:

  • Place 2 filets on a plate and drizzle 1/4 - 1/2 of the sauce over top. Repeat for remaining servings
  • Serve with roasted vegetables, salad, etc.
  • Enjoy!
